CMC Chairman Jayson Myers appointed to government’s Global Commerce Strategy panel

The new advisory panel plans to guide Canada’s ambitious, pro-trade strategy in large, dynamic and fast-growing priority markets.

Through engaging CME’s extensive membership network – including roughly 50 associations comprising the Canadian Manufacturing Coalition – and associations representing exporters in the agri-food, services and natural resources sectors, CME intends to play a constructive role in the process of updating the strategy to guide Canada’s future trade priorities.

“I commend the government for launching this consultative process,” says Myers. “I look forward to working with Minister Fast in developing a game plan that both Canadian businesses and government can work towards to succeed in global markets.”

The advisory panel will look at five critical issues: market access, trade promotion, access to capital, technology and skills.

“The new imperative for businesses today is to add value to the global supply chain,” says Myers. “In this context, Canada’s success in the global economy goes beyond traditional market access issues, and lies increasingly in our ability to access the financing, skills and technologies needed to be world leaders.”

This strategy, he says, is a fundamental step towards making that happen.
